spring goals
One of my spring goals is to be outside as much as possible. Well, every time I am outside, my eyes start to itch and water, my throat gets scratchy and I sneeze. Today, I'm completely congested and coughing. Ugh!

It's good to be needed
It's an incredibly beautiful spring day here in Kansas. I'm grateful for this slow day. This morning I enjoyed time with my friend Julie. Not only do I enjoy being with Julie but she also has a daughter Lia's age and they love being together.
While Julie and I were enjoying our time together we both noticed a burning smell and moments later we heard a small but startling explosion. What was that!? Well, I had forgot that I had started an egg to make a hard boiled egg for Lia. All the water had evaporated, the egg heated to combustion state and exploded. It was hilarious! There were small fragments of egg all around and the egg had actually left the pot it was in and laid next to it on the store. I took the smoldering pan outside and opened the kitchen window. I had never seen anything like this happen--it made me laugh.

Lia and I have also enjoyed some time outside. I gathered all our flower pots, cleaned them out and hope to do some planting this weekend. Happy Day!
Blog worthy conversation with Lia:
Lia: "Mom, I need to go to the bathroom."
Me: "O-kay, go on."
Lia: "Just come with me and help me get started."
Me: "Lia, you really need to get to the bathroom."
Lia: "Moooommmm, just come." (I follow)
Lia: "Mom, I just can't go poopy without you!"
Me (smiling): "Lia, I think you can poop without me."
Lia: "Mom, I can't. I'm just not strong enough."
Me: "Lia, you are plenty strong to poop."
I had to step out of the bathroom because I was not doing a very good job at holding in my laughter. Did we really just have this conversation? Yes we did. Thankfully, she went and was quite relieved. ;-)
I partly blog this for my friend Becky who doesn't understand why people get so weird when poop is discussed since everyone does it.

Stacy
Wilbur has moved to Bubble Land. I thought we were done with our imaginary friends but this morning all of that changed.
Back story: Yesterday I walked in Lia's room and smelled a very strong smell. A strong, distinct smell. Finger nail polish. Lia insisted that she did not get the finger nail polish out. I didn't believe her so I took it away and said because she lied she couldn't have it. She was upset and continued insisting that she didn't do it.
Here is our conversation this morning:
Lia: Mom, can I have my bag back?
Me: Lia, you need to tell me the truth. Did you get out your finger nail polish?
Lia: No.
Me: Well, I'm sorry that I cannot give your bag back to you. (explaining why not telling the truth is wrong)
Lia: Mom, it was "Stacy's" finger nail polish. She got it out.
Me: Who is Stacey?
Lia: Stacey is my sister.
Me: Lia, I'm sorry, I don't think "Stacy" got out the finger nail polish.
Lia: Mom, she did. She just bought it at the store.
Me: Lia, because you continue to not tell me the truth, you will not get your bag back. (I put it on top of the refrigerator)
Lia: Well, I can still reach it. I can climb!
Me (with a sigh): Lia, if you climb on the counter to get it, you will have a spanking.
Lia: Stacey did it.

Wilbur
It was two years ago that we were introduced to Wilbur. Lia talks about Wilbur nearly everyday and often blames him for her misbehavior. Monday morning when we were all trying to get ready to leave for the day, Lia kept giving excuses as to why she wasn't getting dressed when we told her--it all came down to Wilbur. Wilbur scared her, Wilbur took her clothes, Wilbur, Wilbur, Wilbur.
We were finally in the car and Todd said, "Lia, you aren't allowed to play with Wilbur anymore." Lia acting as if it didn't matter, "I don't care. I told Wilbur he had to leave." We were laughing pretty hard and hoping we were moving on from all of the Wilbur escapades.
Not quite yet . . .
Today Lia informed me that Wilbur had moved to "Bubble land" and he has huge bubble makers at his house and he's very happy.
Perhaps she is going to be a writer someday.

You must be NEW!
Many of you know that I work at Starbucks. Yes, I am a friendly barista, serving your favorite coffee beverages with a smile. I could probably write a nice coffee table book of funny, intriguing and strange stories of experiences that I have as a barista and sell millions of copies. Well, maybe.
Here is my funny moment from tonight . . .
Me(Barista): Venti Iced Carmel Macchiato
Customer: You must be new.
Me (Barista): No (smiling and confused)
Customer: Well, I was here two weeks ago and you forgot to give me a straw then too. Just like today.
Me (Barista): Really?! I'm so sorry.
Customer: I just thought you were new because you did it again.
Me (Barista): I'm so sorry. I'm glad you came back and I'm glad you're here tonight. I'll try not to forget your straw next time.
Customer: Thanks. I'm glad I'm here too.
Me (Barista) Have a good night.
I couldn't stop laughing. Two weeks ago! Two weeks ago I forgot her straw. Tonight I failed as a barista. ;-) The funny thing is we keep a full container of straws on the counter--not even an arms length away.
