3 Gifts from our 24th Wedding Anniversary

5.25.1991

1. We have a story. A messy, beautiful story.

2. We still enjoy being with one another. I am thankful for this.

3. Becoming one is a process. We rehearsed our 24 years together. We reflected on the hard, painful ones and the years that seemed easy. Some years were challenging and yet rich because we grew in patience and faith--together. We have wounded one another and forgiven one another. We have encouraged and cheered one another on and have said things that we wish would have never left our mouths. We have laughed, cried and sat in complete silence together and have felt safe, comfortable and known.

I married a very good man. A faithful, kind, generous, patient, wise, lover of Jesus and people, man. A man who has shown me kindness and forgiveness and patience. I hope we get at least another 24 years.

We celebrated our anniversary twice this weekend. Saturday evening we went out for a nice dinner at 1111. The restaurant is newer to Columbia but the Chef has been around Columbia for awhile. When we read the little bio about 1111 we realized that the Chef was the same Chef at the restaurant that Todd was going to ask me to marry him. The tables were so close that Todd was a little nervous to ask such a personal question with people sitting just a couple of feet from us. In his nervousness he asked me on the corner of 9th and Walnut under the light post. It was the perfect spot. The corner is still there though the restaurant has long been gone. We thought it was cool that the Chef was now going to prepare our 24th wedding anniversary meal.

In case you want to know Todd had steak with grilled asparagus and I had grilled sea bass with roasted potatoes. It was delicious.

Our second celebration was at the Rooftop in downtown COMO. We shared a couple of appetizers and enjoyed the view of our beautiful little city.

On our way to 1111 to celebrate 24!
